‘to be an artist is to believe in life’ Henry Moore
Work from 2022
My work from the 3-month intensive at Forest Row School of Ceramics started with digging clay from the banks of the River Medway. This local clay became an intrinsic part of my project as a collage of different clays.
I added black clay, clay peppered with stones that pop out when fired, crunchy crank clay, earthenware and speckled stoneware. I then added texture by pulling and stretching the clay.
With this method I make large vessels, sculptural figures, goblets and wall hangings.
The glazes are made from the ash of hornbeam, pine, willow, oak and beech.
Most of the pieces are reduction fired which brings out the richness and glossiness of the ash glazes.
Some are oxidation fired which results in a softer, more matt colouring.
All my pieces are individual and are for sale so please get in touch if you are interested.
